Cedar Falls High School

Cedar Falls, Iowa

After an extensive bond referendum process to build taxpayer support for a bold vision, the new 300,000 square foot Cedar Falls High School was designed as a heart for students, families, and community, knitting together academics, performance, and athletics around a daylight filled central commons. Robust material choices, generous clerestory glazing, and clear circulation create an inviting, durable building that supports everything from daily learning to large community events. Flexible performance and athletic venues, collaborative studios, and daylight filled classrooms give the school a presence that is both civic and intimate, anchoring campus life and public activity.

Meaningful engagement with students, educators, district leaders, and community members guided planning and pedagogy, producing adaptable learning neighborhoods organized for visibility, collaboration, and ease of wayfinding. Interior design emphasizes wellbeing and long term performance through tunable lighting, acoustic and biophilic finishes, and adaptable furnishings that support diverse learners and evolving teaching methods. Together, the architecture and interiors deliver a resilient, future ready facility that elevates teaching and learning, strengthens civic connections, and celebrates Cedar Falls as a place of shared opportunity.
